XGIMI Introduces Foldable Elfin Flip Projectors With 4K and Laser Options

XGIMI has released their two cool compact projectors in Japan – the Elfin Flip 4K and Elfin Flip Laser. Both are specifically designed with foldable bodies to prioritize portability and space savings. When folded, these ultra-slim projectors are under 8 cm thick, which makes it easy for users to keep them on bookshelves or in tight spots where regular projectors just won’t fit.

Space-saving design with rotating body. A key feature of the Elfin Flip series is its rotating body. As it mentions that each projector can swivel up to 150 degrees, moving from fat and folded position to a forward-facing projection setup. In this design pattern, an easy hinge-like design allows users to quickly change the angle for different viewing purposes with no support needed for a stand or extra mounts.

When the projector gets folded, its small compact size fits in a cozy living space. Both the device is 245 x 254 mm in width and height. The Elfin Flip 4K comes with a folded depth of 78 mm, while the Elfin Laser is a bit slimmer at 75 mm. Even getting the compact size structure, both the device is well built, supporting the 4K model weighing 1.55 kg and the laser version 1.38 kg.

Both projectors deliver bright imaging and are built with premium audio, with 1,600 ISO lumens of brightness. In moderately lit rooms, it ensures clear visuals. To enhance the picture quality, they are equipped with 7-watt speakers tuned by Harman Kardon, delivers better audio sound quality performance compared to any compact projectors.

The display technology is an advanced level utilized for these projectors based on DMD chips. The Elfin Flip Laser has a 0.23-inch DMD with its native resolution consisting of 1920 x 1080 pixels, while the Elfin Flip 4K specs a 0.39-inch DMD with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels for the sharper ultra-high-definition output.

With 4K, it also goes to 20,000:1, enhancing shadow details and overall depth in the projected images.

Gaming and Connectivity

When it comes to gaming performance, both models differ. The Flip laser has digital zoom and supports variable refresh rate (VRR) gaming with about 20 ms input lag at 1080p 60Hz. On the other hand, it flips 4K offers optical zoom and much quicker response times, boasting just 1 ms latency at 1080p 120Hz, which looks great for competitive gamers.

Both projectors support Google TV, which means full support for popular streaming services and wireless media casting. They can also serve as an external display when connected to PCs or gaming consoles via HDMI.

Pricing and Availability

Both new projectors are launching through a crowdfunding campaign on Makuake in Japan. As the price suggested for the Elfin Flip 4K retail price of 206,800 yen (approx. $1,290), another model, the Elfin Flip Laser, is priced at 1,39,800 yen (approx. $890).

Early backers can grab the deal with some great discounts during the campaign, with the Flip 4K available for 114,800 yen (44% off) and the Flip Laser for 84,900 yen (39% off).
